The Averroes Academy for Democracy was launched by the Arab Center for Research in 2014, with the aim to contribute to the policy discussions across countries of the MENA region.
Each year, the Academy welcomes young participants from civil society organizations as well as young researchers to train them sharpen their skills and enable them to engage in policy discussions in their countries through a one-year mixed program of workshops, trainings and webinars.
As a result, our participants are able, following the program, to write policy briefs on different policy issues impacting the region such as inclusive economic development, democratization and integration of refugees.
The program has also been an excellent opportunity to bring together young civil society leaders and researchers with the goal to create a new culture of policy engagement.
Furthermore, the Averroes Academy has moved from a training program to a three-dimensional program, dialogue, policy and network. Beyond, the training component, we seek via our podcasts and op-eds to engage with a large public and to contribute to inform the policy debate in the Arab world.
