Legal barriers to women’s access to the job market in the Arab Region

Arab women’s participation in the job market is extremely important as they are an integral part of the Arab societies, since they make up 50% of the total population and 63% of university students; however, they only make up 29% on average of the work-force. Although there have been substantial efforts aiming at bettering Arab women’s participation in the job market over the last few decades, the numbers’ language has another say on the subject matter, as indicated by statistics and international reports. The numbers and figures uncover a gap between women and men in this vital sector; a gap that is caused to be wider by the pandemic.
